The soft, grainy sand felt good under the webbed paws of the apprentice. His torso lay on the warm shore whilst his rear end lazily float behind him. Cinderpaw swished his dark tail delightfully, his heart full of joy as the splashes of water hit his sides and rolled off his oily, smokey fur. Today he was to collect seaweed for the medicine den. So far the tom was just focusing on having fun. He crawled out of the water, flicking his black ears and tail dry. Cinderpaw turned around, facing the water. A tall limb beckoned to him, hanging over the waters' edge. No way he could resist this fun. The male sluggishly padded across the beach to the tree and scaled the trunk, excited. With expert finesse, Cinderpaw tight walked the slim limb to the edge. Looking far down to the deep water Cinderpaw took a deep breath and jumped with confidence. The water splashed around him as he landed, spraying up high. Cinderpaw opened his eyelids underneath the clear water, blinking a few times to get used to the change. He pawed and kicked, swimming casually for pleasure. Fish lurked in a shiney school at the edge of Cinderpaw's reach, careful to stay away from him. The glint off their scales tickled him with amusement. The tom rose up out of the water, exhaling and inhaling new air. He swam back to the waters' edge, climbing out to sit on his haunches in the warm sun.

<< but memories are warmth. >>Neritefur would never understand the joy some medicine cats found in sorting and collecting herbs. She had spent the better part of the morning sifting through as many leaves as there were scales on a school of fish, and she was really quite tired of it. She had just sent out Cinderpaw to take care of collecting more seaweed, but there were still several other things she had to retrieve from the mainland. The tortoiseshell padded up the spiral ramp and stepped out onto the top of the dome.
There was Cinderpaw, splashing around in the water without a care in the world. The medicine cat watched quietly until he hauled himself out to dry. Neritefur cleared her throat. "Slacking off, are we? Gonna leave the elder to do everything herself?" Her whiskers twitched with amusement, and she smiled slightly. All the while, she had been approaching the water's edge, and now she used her broad tail to splash her apprentice with it.
word count >> 163 notes >> haha i love nerite. :3

Cinderpaw jumped slightly at the sound of his mentor's voice. He whirled around his torso to face her with a surprised grin. "Hey I'm working here!" he mewed, standing up on his small paws. "I was just observing which set of weeds are the best to pick!" the apprenticed explained, smiling at his silly explaination. As Niritefur came closer to him and suddenly splashed him with water, Cinderpaw gasped, shocked. Older cats didn't fool with their apprentices often and was a surprise when they chose to mess with them. Cinderpaw smirked back at her as the cool water dripped off his fur. "How much seaweed did you say we needed again?" he asked seriously, glancing back to the water's depths, surveying the plants. A few clusters grew at the very deepest parts. Some bright colored fish hung out down there with them, circling the leaves aimlessly.
