She had been following him for an hour now, waiting for the right time to pounce. Her stupid mentor had no clue he was being stalked. Shadepaw's eyes gleamed in the darkness. She felt a pelt brushing against hers and Frostbite's silky voice filled her ears. "That grey furred cat could be a valuable ally as well as a great mentor. Much better than that flea pelt Molefoot. I like your plan. Keep up what you're doing. You will be deputy soon." "But Stormstar won't choose a cat as young as me!" "You're whining like a kit back in the nursery. Deputies don't whine. Trust me, Shadepaw. He will. He will." With that he was gone. Molefoot had wondered into a dead end, his back to her. Perfect. Shadepaw sprung and landed on his back and dug her claws in. "What?" Once Molepelt realized he was under attack, he dropped to the ground and rolled on his back, crushing the air out of Shadepaw. Thinking quickly, the apprentice but down on the skin that was inbetween her teeth. Molepelt yowled and got up to see who his attacker was. "Shadepaw? What are you doing? Are you mad?" A grin appeared on the she-cat's maw. "Quite frankly, yes." She sprung. Using her weight, she rammed into her mentor's ribs, knocking him to the side. "Shadepaw! Stop this at once!" "You really think I would listen to a weak cat like you?" "You're too ambitious for your own good." The calico cat raked her claws over his face. The tom's claws raked over her eye. Yowling, Shadepaw clawed off one of her mentor's ears before flipping him on his belly and placing a paw on his throat. Her mentor, not being as young as he once was, was quickly tired out from the fight and didn't struggle. A glimmer of white and red caught her eye. Frostbite. Molefoot had seen him too, for his fur had bristled. "Shadepaw, you traitor!" Frostbite's command rang out loud and clear. "Finish him." "Shadepaw, please..." her mentor was begging her for mercy. She bent down and ripped his throat out and smiled as she watched the life fade from his eyes. How would she cover up his death? She dragged his body to the surface. The wind carried the scent of dog. Perfect. She spotted it a few fox lengths away, pawing at the ground. Suddenly, the dog's head was in the air and its nostrils were flared. It scented them! With a volley of barks, the black and tan canine rushed over. Shadepaw rushed off and hid behind a massive boulder. Luckily, the dog lost interest in the live cat and was now had the dead one in his mouth, shaking it from side to side and tossing it in the air. After she decided that the dog had done enough damage to be believable, she charged at the canine and started raking her claws down its flank. "Get out of here, shrew heart!" The dog retaliated by gripping her in its mouth and shaking her. The dog's white teeth pierced her flesh and blood was running down her sides. This was no the plan! A twoleg called and the dog trotted back to it with the apprentice still in its mouth! Deciding to act, the cat went limp and hung her mouth open. The dog stopped and she heard the twoleg scream and the dog dropped her. A fading train of whines told her that the twoleg had led the dog away. She got up and rushed back to the body. She started dragging it back to camp. Once she reached the clearing, she let loose a yowl of agony. Her clanmates had stared at her in shock. "Molefoot's dead!"
