The floor of ThunderClan. Possibly the most dangerous part of the territory. Flowerfur shivered to herself, looking up at the trees, so tall around her. They didn't help much; it had been raining heavily all day, and her pelt was stinging with every drop.
She had been sent off to retrieve some herbs for the medicine cat, and she had obeyed. Unfortunately, most herbs grew on the ground. It was humid, too. Flowerfur was sweating under her fur, and she hated being hot.
The she-cat's tail twitched to herself as she made her way across several steep hills and cliffs. There! That looked like the herb the medicine cat was looking for! Flowerfur ran over, pulling a few of the leaves from the plant. Successful in her quest, Flowerfur turned around to head back.
Wait. Where was she?
Flowerfur looked around, completely unfamiliar with her surroundings. Grabbing the herbs in her mouth, she quickly scaled a tree to gain a sense of where in the forest she even was.
Oh no. No no no. She was right by WindClan's border. If a patrol caught her, she'd be completely alone! She was good at combat, but she doubted she could take on several cats. Heavily doubted it.
Luckily, she knew how to get back to camp from here. She began to turn around and head back.
Crack!
Lightning struck quickly and violently, igniting a tree not a few yards from her. Suddenly up high didn't seem such a great place to be. Flowerfur got down to the ground as quickly as she could, and ran into a small warren. She was safe from the lightning now.
Flowerfur spit the herbs out of her mouth and gasped to herself, relieved. She eyed the herbs with anger; if she hadn't agreed to go get the damn things, she wouldn't be in this mess!
...No. It could have been an apprentice or something that would have gone in her stead. Better to be alive but isolated than be at fault for the death of another.
Flowerfur stopped her internal monologue as she stopped breathing through her mouth, sticky with the taste of herbs, and switched to breathing through her nose.
A WindClan she-cat. Right behind her. Had they been behind their own border, or just across ThunderClan's? The trees passed a little bit from all sides, even beyond the border. It was possible that the cat had escaped lightning by hiding in the warren, same as her.
Still, it was dark and Flowerfur was still a little frightened, and her fur stiffened.

but i'll lead you all to forever. <><><><><>
It was when lightning first struck that Miststar knew she had to take shelter.
She'd been out hunting, thinking she could beat the storm and come back with some fresh rabbit to bring to the camp shelters in the side of the Tallest Hill. It had been stupid of her, really, to go out alone, and out so far. She was all the way out by the ThunderClan and SkyClan borders, where there were a few trees among the low hills. It wasn't safe to be here during a storm, and she had no chance of making it back to camp at this rate. "StarClan, I've been a feather-head tonight!" She was the leader of WindClan - this wasn't supposed to be happening to her!
The second strike was much closer than the first. She jumped, downy pelt bristling, and bolted as her WindClan instinct dictated. The only option was to dive into the forest - and so she did, nearly gagging on the unfamiliar scent of ThunderClan. "If Elmstar hears about this he'll have my tail...", the silver cat muttered through clenched teeth. At least that was better than being violently shocked -- oh. Never mind.
Miststar skidded to a stop. She wasn't totally lost, but the air was too humid and the trees seemed to be closing in on her. If a ThunderClan cat found her, she'd be at a horrible disadvantage, and quite honestly she was a bit worried about their electric abilities. Just how hard could those cats shock anyway? And what would being captured do to her Clan's reputation? Miststar forced herself to take a deep breath and calm down. The only thing to do would be to make sure she had shelter for the time being.
Luckily shelter presented itself to her in the form of a small warren. She fit quite comfortably with plenty of room to spare, and surely she was safe now.
Oh. Here came a ThunderClan cat, and one that Miststar didn't immediately recognize. No doubt they needed shelter as well. They bristled at the sight of her, and promptly demanded identification. Miststar nodded, taking a moment to gather her nerves so she could speak calmly, as a leader should.
"You know me, I'm sure. Miststar, leader of WindClan. I was out alone and needed shelter from the storm." She nearly stuttered upon realizing how ridiculous that sounded. "Not the most...believable story, I know, but I assure you I mean no harm. When the storm's over, I'll allow you to escort me to the border if you find it necessary."

"You know me, I'm sure. Miststar, leader of WindClan. I was out alone and needed shelter."
Flowerfur lowered her fur and relaxed into a slightly submissive pose. The thunder still left her heart pounding, but she recognized the scent and silhouette of Miststar, and felt kind of stupid for not knowing her immediately.
"Not the most... believable story, I know, but I assure you I mean no harm. When the storm's over I'll allow you to escort me to the border if you deem it necessary."
"Oh, Miststar, forgive me. I didn't realize it was you," Flowerfur sighed, happy to not be facing a more violent cat.
Wait. Story? Miststar believed that Flowerfur didn't trust her. Thinking a bit, Flowerfur realized that another cat might jump to the conclusion that Miststar was trespassing or stealing prey or something like that, but Flowerfur's intuition hadn't led her wrong yet.
"Miststar, I believe you. Even leaders make mistakes, right? You didn't mean to be on the edge, and it'd be really dangerous to be the highest thing in a bunch of hills. Don't worry about it."
Flowerfur sat down and curled her tail around her body, her fur loose and calm. "Better to be caught in ThunderClan territory than losing a life by being stupid and running the length of wide, open territory and getting struck by lightning. I'm not going to report you."
There was a brief silence, and Flowerfur took a moment to listen to the rain pattering above her. "I wonder if this is what ShadowClan cats feel like. Not like... I mean the whole underground thing.
"Miststar, do you ever think about other Clans? Not like going into one or anything, but just wondering what it's like there?"
